Where we come from
LiveDrop’s development began in 2020, when the initial concept for a new, highly secure communication protocol was formulated. The idea emerged from a technical exploration into how sensitive data could be transferred without relying on conventional network infrastructures, and how physical‑layer communication could be re‑imagined to eliminate common digital attack surfaces.
In 2021, this concept matured into a functional prototype. Early validation demonstrated that the underlying mechanism was not only technically feasible but also uniquely suited for environments where confidentiality and operational security are paramount.
LiveDrop was founded on the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), an environment known for deep‑tech innovation and strong academic–industry collaboration. The company has remained rooted in the Brainport region, one of Europe’s leading technology ecosystems, where it continues to operate today. LiveDrop B.V. was formally established to commercialize the technology and bring it to sectors where secure, deterministic data transfer is mission‑critical.
The founding team combines complementary backgrounds: deep technical expertise grounded in a PhD in Physics, paired with experience in commercial strategy and entrepreneurship. This combination enabled the company to bridge advanced research with practical, real‑world application.
During the early development phase, the team identified the significant relevance of the protocol for the Defence & Security domain. Its ability to operate without wireless networks or external infrastructure aligned directly with operational requirements in high‑risk, contested, or classified environments. As a result, LiveDrop’s current focus lies primarily in Defence, Security, and Cyber Security applications, where the need for controlled, infrastructure‑independent communication is most acute.

Looking ahead, the company envisions broader applicability. The underlying protocol has the potential to evolve into a new, generic, and highly secure communication method for the wider public-offering a fundamentally safer alternative to traditional wireless technologies.
In 2025, Secfund, among others, acquired a direct stake in LiveDrop. Secfund is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Defense. Commercially, LiveDrop focuses primarily on NATO countries.
By 2026, LiveDrop is expected to transition from a start‑up into a scale‑up, expanding its operational footprint, accelerating product development, and preparing the technology for deployment at larger scale across both specialized and mainstream markets.
